Let's look at these bars one more time. Powerlite?

So I got these bars through a trade with robk131313. I totally trust Rob and what he has been told they are but I want to re-visit these one more time before I post them for sale. By what Rob has been told by a few other people they are early Powerlite bars before they put the power curve in the bar. The fact that the curve isn't there and they are stamped CR-MO and JAPAN is what puzzles me. Is it possible there are some other brand of bar? they are 28.25 across and look totally un-cut and they measure 9.5" high. The cross bar is close to 10" wide and they are unknurled as well.
Somebody has to have the exact same bar out there that can definitively answer this.

Not that I'm an expert on Powerlites, but I have been around them for a long time! Early Powerlite bars were never made in Japan. Voris Dixon (VDC), made the first bars for Peddlepower. They had the distinct wide, square bottom curve that most of VDC's bars had. Also, I'm pretty sure that Peddlepower didn't have any regular bars before the Powerbend bars came out.

The bars you have there look alot like early Robinson bars. Maybe.

Good luck!  smile

Look like late 80's early 90's Robinson to me. Definately not Powerlite.

I agree.
Early Powerlite / PeddlePower stuff was USA made, non stamped. and had a specific shape.

The do have a Robinson "look" about them too.  But definitely not sure about that Japan Stamping.

Very nice looking bars - either way.

Thanks for the input guys. However I find it hard to believe Robinson would have gone overseas to have stuff made either. After he split from LRV they made his stuff for a while. Once he had things rolling in house I doubt he would have had someone else make his bars. I was also going to say they are most likely pre 85 or 86 just due to the lack of knurling. Most bars seemed to get knurling around 85-86. Once again, thanks for the input.

I compared them to the Kuwi bars. The bends at the clamp area aren't the same shape.

Not sure, but later Dyno bars had the skinny top tube like that -but knurled.  And they were all about going offshore to make these cheap.
However, they were nice bars.   Not sure if the Dyno's where steel or cro-mo though...
I have a couple of the later ones with knurling.

Stuff I want: 2000 24" DB Reactor Team frame ,  Voxom and Enigma stuff. Alliant / Radix stem and stuff.  JW and Stiffys stuff.  Cool late mid-school cruiser parts.

Re: Let's look at these bars one more time. Powerlite?

1000 % not powerlite bars...Never made in Japan ,,, always had bar bends.... Voris Dixon had a machine shop with benders and did alot of the bends for alot of early frame builders etc... I used cut the chromoly tubes into certain lengths take them to Voris and have them bent in the bender machines etc... then take them to welder etc... then to chromer etc.. lol... Eventually bought our own bender ,welding etc and did it all in house...Mark Rink

Old School Peddlepower and Powerlite stuff...

i have to agree with mark he knows best. there's no way those are powerlite bars made in japan with no powerbends especially if they are 1st gens. all that  was made in the U.S. back then.

i put this robk13131313 character on my do not buy/sell to list. lol
