has any1 tried this??

i'm thinking of attempting to color dye a white dominator seat and possibly a set of white plastic pedals to match a certain shade of purple. (might go as far as hitting up some old faded mags if it works) Think it might work?? has any1 tried this b4? or heard of any1 who has? does any1 have experience with dying who might have an opinion or any instruction that could help? or do i just leave it to the ol' trial and error method?

Re: has any1 tried this??

ok i have the water and salt on the stove trying to boil it now...   i made sure the seat fit nicely and riged a bent coat hanger to hang it from...  here is what ive done.

im using ritt dye and it says its the color red on the box, im thinkin take it out a little early to get it just a bit lighter...  will post progress later..

Re: has any1 tried this??

Caleb be careful bro. When you use the powder rit you have to make sure to stir it very well because the powder that isnt mixed in will clump in the tight spots and leave that seat splotchy. Best bet is to use the rit liquid dye. On another note, if it comes out bad, get the rit dye remover and it will go back to white.

Re: has any1 tried this??

after 1 hour 45 minutes i have took it out.. its now orange and its solid color not blochy at all or faded in areas, the pic is just crummy.. i think i need to start fresh now, i will pick up more dye tomoro..  as u can see the spots that had that rust have turned red, if the seat was darker i think i would be done.. going white to red is really hard..

Re: has any1 tried this??

Caleb usually I use 2 jugs of the dye for each object. With a set of tuffs, I use 4 jugs. It usually doesn't take long. The hotter the water the faster it will go. Did you boil the seat right in with the dye or did you take the heat off when you put the seat in? If you are going to try it again, grab that dye remover. It works pretty great.

Re: has any1 tried this??

One quick question: When your stuff is dyed, like a seat, will the dye transfer to other stuff? Like the ass of my pants??

Re: has any1 tried this??

dj i boiled the pot the hole time and i didnt puit the seat in till it was boiling..   i think mabe 2 packs of die would have turned it red  or just a second try .. now im going orange to red instead of white to red  it should take alot better to red on the second try..   i will post after i do the second dip....

Re: has any1 tried this??

I made the HORRIBLE mistake of dying a seat to black on a brand new stove this winter.
I was all excited to get the seat changed, and I'm just giddy watching the brew.
the wife walked in and my whole reality changed in a flash.  oh my.

but dang the red seat turned to black very nicely after soaking all night.
