1985 Redline 800p
1985 Redline 800p
Fully restored top of the line Redline racer.
Back from the dead is my ’85 Redline 800P Proline purchased new by me back in early ’86. Tons of great memories here. A couple of Maine state NBL championships (1986, 15X; 1987, 16X) along with several national races in NC, OH, TN, and FL. The frame/forks, bars and pad set are original. The cranks and stem were added around ’88. All other parts are either NOS or near mint.
Parts include: Redline 800P Proline frame and forks; Redline Flight Cranks (180mm) w/bubble font sprocket; Hadley bottom bracket; Hutch Pro pedals; Elina Flyte Tech seat; Redline seat post (new); Hutch full radius seat post clamp; Dia Compe 901 brakes; Dia Compe Tech 77 lever; Terry brake cable; Araya 7x rims with Bullseye hubs; Tioga Comp III tires; Redline Forklifter bars; Ame grips; DK stem; Tange MX2 headset; Hutch 2-N-1 headset lock

Re: 1985 Redline 800p
Would anyone suggest any parts changes...I suppose I probably should track down a forklifter stem. I eitehr broke it or just got rid of it BITD. Can't remember.

Re: 1985 Redline 800p
That's a great looking restoration. It looks original which is how a well done restoration should look. Is it powder coated or painted?
I had an 85 RL20 re-chromed and powder coated Hazard Yellow by Chip at C4 Labs. Chip was able to angle the powder on the rear chain stays like yours. Did Chip powder your 800P?

I wouldn't worry about getting a forklifter or making other changes, unless you are striving for the bone stock look.
What minor changes you have made are "period correct" and tastefully done.

Nice bike, I'm a big fan of the 85 Redlines.
I think you should grab some 85 decals, the one's you have are 86. You can get them at the link I have posted posted below, although the headtube sticker supplied is too short, the 86 headtube sticker you have is also too short. This is beacause they were both designed with a RL20 II in mind. I can email you a template with the correct headtube sticker if you like, you will just need to change the colours as mine are set up for hazard yellow.

Much appreciated. I actually prefer the look of the '86 decals, which is why I went that route. Although the bike is technically an '85, I actually bought it new in '86.

Thanks. Good luck with it. Note...the paint job is difficult to have done. Make sure you get a good reference beforehand if you decide to have it refinished. Also, I would go with paint vs powder.

Re: 1985 Redline 800p
Well you know how I feel about Redlines. My first was the PL-20 I bought from Davis. Then I went with the Radberry RL-20 II. Can you believe I actually brought that out on the racetrack... pegs and all. lol. Your Redline here has me drooling all over the keyboard!!!! Just a beautiful bike man. I love everything about it. A perfect example from our era. Great job Terry!!!!
