2021 S&M Dagger

2021 S&M Dagger build in sour grape

So I recently decided to get back into riding flatland in my 40s, after a 10+ year break. Not sure what prompted it - maybe the reissue of the heritage/legacy bikes from the 80s and 90s brought back the memories. Or maybe I just missed falling down in a dark parking lot LOL. In any case, I'd never owned an S&M before and they have a solid reputation, so I thought I'd build up a Dagger since the Intrikat has been discountinued and this is the next closest thing in terms of geometry. Plus I wanted to build a bike with as much American stuff as possible. As the saying goes, Buy American Stuff or Bye American Jobs.Overall I'm pretty happy with it about 4 months in. I should have probably bought a longer frame as the 19 feels twitchy, but otherwise no complaints.Frame: S&M Dagger, 19" top tubeFork: S&M Fast Pitch, Odyssey headsetBars: S&M Intrikat 8.5" rise, ODI Mushroom grips (still made in USA after all these years!). Madera Mast stem.Cranks: S&M OEM 160mm with Ares 23t sprocket. I have to say these cranks have been underwhelming - simultaneously difficult to install while coming loose every other riding session.Pedals: Odyssey Fantastic PlasticWheels: Rant Squad with polished rims, Party On v2 in front and Moonwalker II in back. For a discount/budget wheelset these have held up well so far. Odyssey Frequency G tires with Infinity Ka pegs.Seat: Generic padded seat from Amazon with an Origin 8 post. I prefer the older style railed seats as they're more adjustable for comfort if you actually plan to ride the bike LOL (side glides anyone?).Brakes: Frankenstein system cobbled together from garage leftovers. I think the calipers are 996 with springs, cables, and adjusters from other brakes. The levers are Sun/Promax generics from Amazon, with locks. I like these because of the length - you can pull them with 3 or 4 fingers, which helps prevent hand pain if you're old. Pads are Odyssey A pads, which are the next best thing since Kool Stop stopped making the Supra 2 in clear. Odyssey GTX gyro.

Nice bike...I dig it!  I’m riding a 19” Dagger set up for flatland too.

Re: 2021 S&M Dagger

That’s a very sweet Dagger!  I love the Dagger for flatland.  I’m currently on a black Dagger - 19.5” TT.
Technically, I guess I’ve got a spare (also black), if you’re thinking about switching from your current 19” TT - to 19.5” TT.
Hit me up, if any interest there…
Glad to hear about another 40-something rider jumping back into the flatland game!
Welcome back!  👍🏼
