This bike has a fs  9852845. The listing when I bought it said 85 pro performer. My issue is the date it was manufactured makes me think it’s an 86 but the crank and headset where stock on the 85. The color is the only paint on it so I think it’s original which wast available for the 85 pro performer. The story is that the bike was found over 25 years ago at the bottom of a lake and sat in a garage till sold to me. The stickers are for an 85 in picture. My deal is I just want to buy the right decals when I get it powder coated. If I’m wrong on the parts for the year I’d love that info so I can be further educated as I’m just getting back into this after many years.  Any help will be much appreciated.

September of 1985

I know the manufacture date from the serial. My question is, is it considered an 85 with the parts, paint and decals? Or is it an 86 that may have had the wrong decals put on. That long ago I don’t think people would have gone with older decals. I know when I had a 86 performer back in the early 90’s I put 90’s decals on because that’s what was for sale at the local bike shop at the time.

I would assume those are original decals...to me & the Museum, you could go either year 85/86 on how you build it...

Ok thank you. I think I’ll stick with the 85 decals especially since I already bought the parts I need for an 85.

Lots of stuff very helpful in this feed. But have a question? 1985 pro series. I just bought it has CA decals on it , but has BB SERIAL is that possible? Thought Japan made BB SERIALS ONLY https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/271596/e3bd1a7d-0ac7-489f-8c21-0f9186d022d1629618037d.jpeg

I bought this GT Pro Series new for my birthday.  Up until this point I was racing on a Torker.  I could not remember the year as it was quite a while ago.  If I am decoding this correctly it was made in April of 1985 at the Santa Ana plant.  What I am not sure of is if the decals are correct.  I remember repainting the frame because the paint started bubbling on the neck.  Everything on the bike is correct except for the seat and Skyway mags, I still have the GT wheels and tires that came on it.  I would love to be able to buy the correct GT seat that came on it.  Any help with the serial number and decals would be much appreciated.

We don't have a 83/84/85 GT catalogs...

Find this:

So I slap this together for 1985:

Re: GT Serial Number Info

So I finally dug out my old Dyno Compe. First bicycle I ever bought myself and it’s serial number YC99B02166. I tried to decipher it, but I know there are more seasoned hands in here than my own.
My big question is whether it’s going to be worth anything or if I should do like my wife says and give it to my youngest son to ride and probably ruin.

My bad. I guess I was looking more for a (would it be wise to let an 8 year old possibly destroy it) scenario.

Re: GT Serial Number Info

Hey I have one that is a little different than most serial numbers. It's kind of in two parts on the bottom bracket D S 6 0
703172 and it's like this the DS60 is on the right side of the bottom bracket then there is a space and then the last part 703172 is on the next line down with a single space in-between the sets of numbers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I looked at similar pics of it and it looks like an 86 Performer. As I was taking it down to the metal I could see the stickers and they looked like those on an 86 but not real sure.

GT Performer I assume
98? Didn't see the single letter followed by 2#s in the breakdown. https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/272719/img_20220824_130540748_hdr630687358e.jpg

Re: GT Serial Number Info

Any Idea what year this is?
Serial number on the BB. No stamps on dropouts. 18.5" tt. Stickered and parts match 85 Mach One.
Very weird Serial number and the log on this thread (even though it is great) does not really help.
I read somewhere it was a possible limited run of M1/Pro but I am unsure.
