2012 Carver Ti Pro XL
2012 Carver Ti Pro XL
Custom Ti 20" XL Race
About six months ago after seeing Legend crazy ti cruiser build I got the urge to do my own ti bike. My goal from the outset was to create a relatively light top-of-the-line 20 in. race bike that could withstand the rigors of my sloppy old-guy riding style.
I began the process by approaching Davis Carver at Carver Bikes to see if he could help me out. He welcomed the challenge and worked with me over the course of about two weeks to solidify the design. The specs are consistent with many of today's top race bikes, with a top tube length (21.25 in.) that is consistent with an XL race bike.
Its not the lightest frame out there at 3.48 lbs, but I suspect its one of the strongest (and highest quality) among others in this range. Features include an ovalized seat tube and gussets above/below the top tube/down tube for added strength, a double butted down tube to cut down on weight, and an integrated headset.
Selecting the parts was tough. Again, my goal was to select decent quality and durable parts that would hold up on the track. I also looked for light(er) parts where appropriate. So many choices.
Parts include:
Forks: Answer Dagger Pro Carbon
Handlebars: Bombshell Pro Carbon
Brakes: Bombshell 686 Pro V
Lever: Bombshell Ridea
Cranks: Shimano DXR (180mm)
Bottom bracket: Chris King (ceramic)
Chainring: Rennen (36T)
Chainring Bolts: Ti
Pedals: Loaded AMX Signature Ti
Brake pads / cable: Kool Stop / Odyssey Race
Seatpost: Thomson Masterpiece
Seatpost clamp: Phil
Seat: Cruip Ti
Wheels: Sun Envy rims / Chris King hubs (ti bolts)/ Stainless spokes / alloy nipples
Tires: Maxxis DTH Folding (1.75 / 1.95)
Headset: Cane Creek
Stem: Thomson
Grips: Tangent
Chain: Crupi Ryhthm Titanium
Tensioners: Answer
Total weight: 17.22 lbs

"My goal from the outset was to create a relatively light top-of-the-line 20 in. race bike that could withstand the rigors of my sloppy old-guy riding style."
So well said.............perfectly describes my riding style and the theory behind most of my builds (I could just never think of the right words) LOL. Sweet bike, very nice job putting this one together..

Very well done. Building a Robinson now and, as I've said already, gonna be hard to finish when the bar has been reset so high.

Nice ride I happened to see Legendofjd3's Carver in person and it is for sure a work of art. This 20" is one of the coolest modern race bikes Ive seen.

Re: 2012 Carver Ti Pro XL
Stumbled on this baby whilst scanning through the titanium thread - what a stunning bike and an instant fave for me!
Check out my 1983 VDC-built Trident, 1983 Kuwi Laserlite, 2010 GT Ultrabox 2, 2011 Crupi race rig and prototype Quamen, plus the all things Crupi & old school scene in Japan threads. Always interested in buying used, mid-school race plates and pads - UGP, Knucklebone, Lizard Skins, Pryme and the like, me like!!
