that stem issue is super easy to fix with a drill, hammer and a roll pin.  ;)

That's exactly what I was going to do a few times over.....but I decided screw it I'm just going to put on a beefier stem.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

Those pretty turquoise brake pads I have in the museum submission dont stop worth crap.   I swapped in some mountain bike trials clear pads...what a huge difference.

Since the photo-shoot never happened that frees up some artistic expression potential.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

So my dad came by my house yesterday and I showed him the Redlines.    He was blown away how nice and new they looked.   He asked, is this the Redline I bought you long ago, I said yes.   He said wow it looks brand new.   Then he asked about the Radberry bike, I told him the story, he said it also looks brand new.   Then he asked how much they are worth, I gave him high estimates, and he then said you must have spent a lot of money restoring them....I said yes I did.   He then correctly pointed out that the RL-20a must be made in China and the 20II must be USA or Japan.....LOL......father's intuition?  Im glad I didnt get scolded...I was expecting a reaming for messing around with BMX bikes.  LOL

Bro I love the passion that you have for your RL's......Amazing RL 20 II that you have! I Always loved that turquoise/teal Color. I have an all chrome 86 RL 20 II, and wouldn't trade her for the world.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

Thanks, I do love these bikes.   Ever since owning that RL-20II I have never really "needed" any other BMX bike.   There are many bikes out there that are amazing, but that one was/is my grail.

I just recently started as a member here, but have been viewing bikes on this site for a long time and have no problem selecting your bike as my very first fave! Beautiful bike and great story.

You could always build a padded room with a rubber floor. 😜

That is really cool that your dad remembered the bike he bought you. It probably means a lot to him that you value it. BTW, Your bikes look perfect, I think you are more anal retentive than me.

You can't put a price on peace of mind.

This too shall pass.

That's the way it goes. Life ain't fair and the world is mean.

Re: 1985 Redline RL-20II

Well did a few updates and few more to come.

My Canadian  buddy (Shiznitme) provided me with the correct bars for my 1985 RL-20II.   If you didn't read the story, I bought this RL-20II combo back in 1985 and at the time of purchase I did not want painted bars because I saw how badly scratched bars got from constant adjusting of break levers.  So I asked the bike shop to swap in chrome Forklifters, which they did but they only had the race version.  So thats what I had on this bike all these years; first generation race Forklifters with the threaded tabs, rather rare, as I never see them anywhere.

Well Miles had correct year and color Forklifter freestyle handlebars but they had been well used but not unsavable.   I contemplated having them chroi,ed to match the look I have sported for 19 years but I decided against it. So rather than strip it and have it refinished I decided to touch it up....worst case scenario I would have them completely redone.  Several coats and wet sandings later this is what I have.  Its not perfect and I managed to polish through some of my touch ups but once the plate is back on, unless you are looking for the defects you cant really notice them.

I was afraid it would be too much turquoise, but I really like it.   The thing I am not so sure about is if I want to keep those teal grips.  I am thinking maybe I can break it up with some white or black donuts and end caps, or maybe just get a different grip altogether.  Thoughts?

I am also contemplating altering the number plate, cables under the bar and the Forklifter plate don't play well together.......:/
