1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
Not too many OG Red PK's floating around! Glad to have it in my SE Racing collection!
As many know, I am a HUGE SE Racing FREAK!!! The story on how I acquired this frameset is, I ended picking up some very nice SE Rad Pads and decided to sell them. A member here contacted me and wanted the pads BAD!! I didn't really want to budge on my price, so he told me he had something I may want. He sent me pics...i almost pooped my pants. A OG red PK doesn't pop up everyday, so we exchanged #'s and shot the crap for awhile. We ended up agreeing on a price/trade and met up at a bar to exchange the items and drink some beers! I ended up making a new friend, came home with a new project and he left happy with the pads he wanted along with a few bucks!
HUGE thanks to Jaf for the opportunity to put this into my collection!
When I got this thing home, I wanted to build something REAL...something that you would see at the track, not all dolled up with a wallet and credit card thrown at it. Well here it is...my 1981/82 OG Red PK RIPPER...My budget racer!!!
here is the parts list!

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
I don't know why you'd bother to list this Ripper in your bikes, when I will own it someday.
Killer build Jon, and yes lets do lunch, drink some beers, and discuss price.

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
Looks great Jon! Love the real-world ideal behind this build. And your son looks like he's itchin' for his inheritance...sorry looptail nut but you may have some stiff competition from Jr.
Mad legit son.
Wanted (in any condition): SE Racing --> Anything pre Fuji | Comp II type tread fat/skinny tire set in black | Premier Super BMX helmets
The weapon of America's deadliest mass killer, Timmy McVeigh, was fertilizer. Maybe we should ban bullshit, but that would shut down Washington, DC and all five major TV networks.

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
Budget??? That bike would be worth as much as all my bikes put together
And given that Ryder is nearly as tall as you already I'd be keeping a close eye on that beast!!

Sure do respect the (keep it real) aspect of your build,,this bike shows how it was really done in the very early 80's.I really want a PK,I sort of missed the gap BITD,by the time I was full tilt into BMX hutch, skyways and the like were the bikes to have.
I bmx'd in the 80's,therefore I am.......

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper

little man looks like he might be a SE guy also. pretty soon, you will both be out cruising bro.
If winning isn't everything then why do they keep score?

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
Update:
I found a original candy red fork with Landing Gear decal to match the patina on the frame along with a straight Dia Compe lever.....now its perfect in my eyes!

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
Reminds me of my own BITD. I debated for a few years after joining the museum whether to leave it OG red or go with new powder. In the end, i figured WTF, it's my bike and always has been and I can do with it as I please. So, Chip at C4 powdered it is and the rest of the parts are original or NOS. It had faded and the stickers were toast. So, now I'm gonna get it built back up by the end next month. Love your bike too.

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
This is exactly how I remember the top-of-the-line bikes looking back in the late 70's and early 80's.
