1998 GT Speed Series Team XL
1998 GT Speed Series Team XL
Going to be a very fun build, look in comments for many pictures
I'm using Macktastic's idea of the build time line
Update: 3/3/2011
Risen BMX Fork, polished it myself
JW 53mm Blue Ruckus stem, and 1.5 JW Blue Chain Tensioners SS hardware, Redline Brake Lever. I replaced the OG pivot with a .357 Magnum bullet shell.
Update: 3/18/2011
Just got a pair of Answer Aluminite Handlebars, very light
Update: 4/23/2011
Not really a "NEW" item but I've had these FSA crank arms for a while, got them from elf_dude
Update: 6/6/2011
Got my Alienation Bullit hubs **SOLD** Different Hub combo used.
Update: 6/28/2011
I now have all the ingredients for a wheelset, I just need to build it now. I also just received some sweet late 90's USA made Redline Flights from hollywood23
Update: 7/19/2011
I now have a complete crankset, I bought and received a Profile BB and Ano blue Cone Spacers . I also bought some ODI S&M Lock-On grips.
Update: 9/14/2011
Since I've changed my mind on hubs and am not going with the Alienations I bought and received an Infect X-Tralite front hub today. This hub is amazing, hand made Aluminum flanges with Titanium center sleeve and bolts. Made in Russia.
I also got a Profile Stemlock and some carbon fiber stem spacers.
Update: 10/20/2011
Got these amazing pedals from Dark Cycles, they are called Arachnids...again, amazing. Plus they are cheaper than Crupi's
Update: 12/27/2011
Profile Totem rear hub in hands, need to lace my rear wheel now...
Update: 1/2/2012
Terrible One "Gower Power" 39T sprocket acquired! Also bought one for my Power Series as well. Very nice sprockets!
Update: 2/4/2012
Premium Refuse Resist tires, I bought them mainly because that's the name of an awesome Sepultura song.
Update: 2/18/2012
Tioga Spyder D saddle and a Madera BMX Patriot T-shirt
Update: 4/24/2012
Paul blue Moto BMX brakes

Thermal count is rising, In perpetual writhing. The primordial ooze, And the sanity they lose. Awakened in the morning, To more air pollution warnings. Still we sleepwalk off to work, While our nervous systems jerk. Pretending not to notice, How history had forebode us. With the green house in effect, Our environment was wrecked. Now, I can only laugh, As I read our epitaph. We end our lives as moles, In the dark of DAWN PATROL

These are a sweet midschooler man, I stumbled across an ex-team version of the box series, restoring it at the moment too.

sick frame. i have a friend who swears by this frame. he had a gt mini frame (broke that), 92 gt elite frame (broke that), but has one of these made of easton aluminum that he's been riding for 10 years. truely a great frame that should get more respect

i agree with squirrel i know ppl that used the 98 speed series frame for hardcore street and park use and never see them break or bent it. and the 1 you have here is in beautiful condition. just dont forget to flip the seat post around.... (its backwards) good luck with the build. the more effort you put into it the more you will appreciate the end results. took 20 years to get my pk the way you see it now and my powerlite is up to 7 months

Funny you mention the seatpost, i replaced the Thomson seatpost on my Power Series with it and i had it on backwards for a long while then i looked at it one day and was like "The seat sits to far forward, what the hell?!"

i agree i love that stem. maybe ill get a purple 1 for my grim reaper. and its cool how you are also doing the step by step progression. keeps it interesting to see how things changed. i first did that with the auburn then the fit my most recent was the powerlite. and just as you followed my powerlite build ill be keeping an eye on this 1. and so far you are off to a great job

Thanks guys!
Macktastic: yeah I had his avatar because of what my little nickname said; "I am the young Owl..." but Owl changed it because he got jealous
psychoduddycycles: I got the bars from kcmobmx, I'm going to have a cross bar CNC'ed by a friend to match the sorta hexagonal shape of the clamps

I didn't like it in black either, but as you can see I didn't want to lose the machining marks by polishing it so i didn't polish the top of the crown
