1984 GT Pro

Josh's Ride #2 - '84 Race Machine

After Ride #1 was finished (see Hutch) we thought we needed a new baby, so this was born.  Josh needs to see the full spectrum of 80's BMX.  Because our first bike had no color (black/chrome) we went with something a little different this time.  We try to stay with old school style, so if not vintage, we try to at least use the same manufacturer/same model, and we call this "CP" (Current Production).  Now Josh has to tell me which is better...Hutch or GT?  Specs:

-'84 GT Pro F/F (Forks "Nora Cup", undrilled, but...unfortunately...home drilled)
-CP A'me Tri grips
~'83 GT Pro Bars
~'84 DK Pro XL Stem
-CP Tioga Beartrap 2 headset
~'80 Araya 7C rims, NOS Asahi spokes, CP spoke nipples, CP Bullseye hubs
-CP Duro "Comp III style" skinwall tires, 1.75"
-CP Shimano SF MX30 freewheel
-CP KMC Z710SL chain
~'80 (NOS) Sugino Super Maxy cranks (170 mm, 44 tooth) + YST sealed BB (131 mm)
~'84 Victor "DX" (VP555) pedals
-CP Kashimax Aero
-CP Porkchop seat post
~'83 Aeromax BMX seat post clamp
-'79 Dia Compe 1020 Caliper + ~'85 Shimano DX lever

Re: 1984 GT Pro

Thanks guys.  Appreciate your help and good dealings.  But Walt....I think a simple GT might be too plane for your fine collection, but if it itches ya' bad enough, lmk....I think I might be able to find a trade in there somewhere.  Seriously, thanks for your help.

Now a break from building....off to the races.  smile

Re: 1984 GT Pro

Troy, I'm definitely feeling the color combination!  I never would've pictured the red, gold, and chrome theme meshing so well, but you pulled it off so well on your GT, great year!  lol

Re: 1984 GT Pro

This is an 83. They made them through feb. 84.

Can you ever really have enough GT's?

Re: 1984 GT Pro

Thanks.  To my understanding they made the straight cut to something like Apr, but then started the bologna cut like in March (a little overlap).  Mines a 384 S/N with, as you noted, bologna cut.

Re: 1984 GT Pro

Very nice 1984 GT, great colors and the Bullseye hubs to top it off!

fyi- I found out from Easkeybikes Sean tht early 1984 (straight cut) model sold only as a frame and (undrilled) fork.
When GT started coming out with the complete bikes "Pro Series" "Mach One" etc. later that year, the angled "bologna cut" appeared for the first time.
The following year GT moved from Santa Ana to Huntington Beach.
