1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team Model
1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team Model
This is my recently completed dayglo pink '87 GT Pro Freestyle Tour build. This bike holds a strong sentimental value to me as it is the exact type of bike I rode daily during my high school years.
Frameset was purchased here from member caleb_k21. All powdercoating was done by Chip at C4 Labs and the dayglo pink is an EXACT color match to a set of NOS dayglo pink GT bars I have in my closet.
I decided not to run the Power Series cranks for fear of them stripping out on me, as this bike will be my new rider. I have ridden mostly with Redline flight cranks so that is what I decided to use on this bike.
Also, back in high school after breaking a few hollow axles on my old Superlace hubs I bought Peregrine Super Pro 48s and prefer them over the 36h wheels. With this build I used 48h high flange GT hubs powdered white and stickered to resemble Superlaces laced with stainless spokes and nipples to Araya Super 7X chrome outer Hoops.
Component list:
-1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour frame/fork/bars/seat post powdered dayglo pink
-Epoch freestyle headset
-1st gen Gyro powdered white
-GT mallet stem, SR version, powdered white
-Dia Compe Tech 77 levers in white, original Japan Made
-A'ME Tri grips in white
-'87 GT seat post clamp, original NOS
-mid school GT seat (have original '87 seat, didn't like the feel)
-Tioga loose ball bottom bracket BB22E
-GT power disc inner chainwheel fully polished
-GT 43t outer chainwheel powdered white
-Redline 401 flight cranks powdered white, 175mm full wrap
-Shimano PD-MX15 pedals
-Chrome GT chainwheel bolts
-White KMC chain
-GT chrome rear pegs
-GT fork standers powdered white
-Dia Compe FS-883 Nippon front brakes, powdered white, allen head front center bolt and rear flush bolt
-GT 48h high flange hubs powdered white and stickered to resemble Superlaces
-Stainless steel spokes/nipples
-Chrome Araya Super 7X outer hoops
-Comp ST replicas in 20x1.75 from porkchop bmx
Hope you like this build!
Ryan

Very nice! Looks killer and I like that you made it your own my not cookie cuttering every other PFTTM you see (Superlaces, Power Series, etc). You know what you like and needed, and wasn't afraid to put it on your GT!

Talk about motivation! I'm in the process of restoring my own day-glo pink '87 GTPFTT and now I REALLY want to finish it. Awesome!

Even the bike shop worker himself who still is a good friend of mine warned me about them. He has seen MANY of them strip out on the arms at both the spindle side AND pedal side...not to mention they squeaked a lot. Redline Flight cranks are PROVEN to last.
A quick search brings this:

I had a set of Power Series cranks lined up for me at $375 shipped....backed out and bought 175mm full wrap 401 Flights..not taking any chances here....appreciate your concern though!
