Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper

Thanks ,Its kinda neat Huh
There were 2 dudes around the block that had PKs where i grew up in Melbourne Australia.
One was a candy apple red PK with gold hardware and flight cranks.Wow
The other was fluro orange with gold hardware and was arguable the coolest bike i have ever seen and damn that cat could ride..
My best bud shaker is in the process of recreating it and I hope to see it in the Museum in the next 6mnths or so.

Yeah i was really lucky to find 3 sets DX cranks from a mate in Singapore.
The bike had a set of red DX  pedals but i really like the Mid school Odyssey pedals on this particular bike.

Thanks mate.If you ever want to part with the ET LMK
Think ill keep the red DX pedals for another project though. The are a true red and the cranks are a pinky red so the 2 colours kinda clash.
The red DX pedals will go with a set of Flight cranks i have stashed away..Now if i could just find an 82 Quadangle id be happy...:)

nice use of shimano when possible but it think a bike thats all shimano'd out should have dx pedals. like the clear grips

Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper

Love the bike, but really hate the pedals......so what if the color clashes a bit. Those midschool peds should go. I also am not diggin the clear grips. Ideally I would also swap that stem to an earlier model.

Dont get me wrong its your bike and build as you like, just saying this build is so close to perfection, you should go all the way.

Bitd the anodizing on builds didnt match all the time either. I am pretty sure thats something we started caring more about as we became adults.

anyway when I squint and pretend those parts arent on it I see one of the sickest Pk builds on the museum.

Just throwing some constructive criticism out there.

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper

Duly noted,I have a brand new set of DX pedals but took them off,so i can see ya point on the peds as they are not to everyones taste. The most popular OS pk in the museum barely has an old school part on it.The clear grips i wont change because it is different and the Bars can be seen in there full glory.
The stem is perfect also.It dont get much better than a Tuff Neck,no matter what year
If we all built bike that had parts on them from the day they were made then every bike would look the same.
I have 3 OS Pks and they are all very different.
Personally i like the Blue PK the best as its a little out of left field.
My red n gold PK is far more conventional and on e you should have a look at..I will haved better pics of it next week
Thanks for the feedback...Rerun

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper

I KINDA AGREE WITH WILLY, EXCEPT THE COLOR THING WHEN I ASK QUESTIONS TO A SELLER ON EbAY ABOUT THE COLOR ON AN EXPENSIVE PART I MIGHT BUY FROM THEM & THEY SAY WELL NOBODY CARED BACK IN THE DAY IF PARTS MATCHED....... BS..... I CARED IN 82' & ALWAYS HAVE, GOING ALL THE WAY IS ALSO HAVING THE COLORS MATCH!!!!!!! IF IT WERE MINE I WOULD CHANGE THE PEDALS WHEN I COULD FIND SOME RIGHT COLOR & ERA BUT THOSE ODYSSEY TRIPLES LOOK PRETTY COOL & OLDSCHOOL AS TEMPS! GOOD JOB! THE GRIPS ARE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA TOO SHOWING THE GLISTENING RED ANO ALLOY BARS
BUT I WOULD HAVE A SET OF RED A'ME'S TO GO BACK & FORTH WITH! GOTTA LOVE ALL THAT ANO ALLOY GOODNESS!!!! GREAT JOB!! TOP NOTCH BUILD!!!!!

Re: 1980 SE Racing P.K. Ripper

Absolutely gorgeous bike. Love all the red anodized parts. My PK is red as well. I reanodized my cranks. The ano is darker than everything else. Plus, the other components are all a little different color, so color matching is almost a moot point unless you do it all at the same time. Maybe I'm partial to red, but I love the bike anyways. Well done!

Always looking for Cook Bros. stuff, vintage SE stuff,  MCS 6 bolt Super stems,  and Race Inc. Leading Edge/Cycle Pro/BMX innovations 20" forks.  All NOS or in very nice condition.
