1988 Murray

Murray team 7-11 freestyle..

I found this at a garage sale. Didn't know 7-11 sponsored bikes?? Freestyle?? Has a black Femco freewheel rim, Sugino spyder and ACS stem & seat clamp. Don't know the exact year but looks late 80's.

Re: 1988 Murray

Probably came with a coaster brake, but someone swaped it our for a Femco freewheel.

You might be right. Murray serial numbers are hard to decode. If you look on both side of the head tube you'll see 2 set of numbers. One will start with a letter, mine is M055440 88. I think the "M" stands for Malaisa. I also have a "mady by Murray" sticker on the seat tube that says 08-90. Thats why I thought it might be late 80's or early 90's.

Re: 1988 Murray

I just got this frame from Gary.  Does anyone have a complete picture of this bike?  What kind of rims did they come with?  How does the 7-11 make sense?  I just assumed it was a promo bike that 7-11 was giving away?

I want to restore it, but am afraid to get rid of the stickers.  Anyone have any ideas on preserving the stickers?

Re: 1988 Murray

I had this bike in 1985, this bike is not stock. It had generic chrome 32 spoke wheels wheels, white tires, white Cw style bars, a white dominator style seat, a white layback seat post, and White and black uni mushroom type grips. everything was generic, no name brand. 7-11 sponsored the tour de france, and won. 7-11 was huge into bike racing back then. you also could get a slurpee with a baseball pog hollowgram on the bottom of the cup, that same time too. this bike probably has a value of 90.00. thats at the top of all the team murrays. The 26" 7-11 racing bike frame sells for 2000.00 and was priced at 800.00 in 1985. I  have no idea what happend to my 7-11 bike now that I see this bike, I liked that bike too. quite a few kids had them in the old neighborhood.

Re: 1988 Murray

I had one when I was 7 and am now trying to find one to purchase. Its like finding a needle in a hay stack. when I find one it'll be by luck I'm sure, but if you know where one for sale is hit me up. I loved that bike kept it for 10 years when south american humidity rusted it out.
