1981 Redline MX-II
Father/Son project. Restored for my son. Perhaps the name "redline" will give my son nostalgic childhood memories as it does for me.
Spotted this rusty frame on an online sale, grabbed it for around $30. The chrome was so rusted/pitted and the seat tube had a nice little crack from the keyhole. Fortunately my son's best friends dad works with metal and offered to blast the frame and fork and weld the crack. (Our hero would not accept money so a nice bottle of bourbon seemed right) While all this was going on I was trying to find out which year the bike was... no oval or logo on bottom just 6 digit serial# led to 1981 US made. (fork has the oval stamp) the BMXmuseum and forum is a great place to get expert feedback in this field of research. Looking at the other 81's we decided candy blue and the second generation sticker set would look best. After fresh powder and putting the stickers on my son was real excited and couldn't wait to ride it. I mustered together some more parts and here she is! While many of the other kids have new school racing bikes–he loves taking this to practice at the downtown Richmond BMX track.
