1996 Mongoose Menace 24

Oldschool looking chrome looptail.

I saw this bike on craigslist for sale or trade. I traded a 18" Craftsman chainsaw, and my old ipod touch for it. At first I thought it was covered in rust, but upon further inspection, it was specks of grease from a gas grill. He left the bike behind the grill in a lean to "shed" for a few years. After stripping the bike down to bare bones the chrome shined up really nicely, well, except for the bars, those were pretty rusty. I replaced the short cruiser bars with a set of older unknown chrome bars, and swapped out the Goose stem for an '83 stamped ACS stem. I also added a chrome re-pop Dia-Comp MX1000 front brake, and Dia-Comp Tech 5 levers. I used a rusty old 44t Huffy Sigma chain wheel that I stripped, and painted black. I need to change up the ratio a bit though as it's a pretty short ratio with a 44t/17t. I now have a 38 tooth chainring on it for better ratio.
I got the VP747 pedals off the same old Huffy Sigma that the chain wheel came from. I took the pedals all apart, regressed the bearings, and scrubbed the pedals clean with some grey (fine) Scotch-Brite pads for the shiny brushed aluminum look. While it's not a high end bike, it is my regular rider, because it's light, and comfortable.

July 2020 Update: Added a 40 tooth chain ring, Pro Class disc, and Redline cranks. Then... I sold it.

Good job on restore..can we get a side shot as the first pic.. no angles..maybe outside light.. GAry

Now including natural lighting, and side view.
