1989 ESP 24

Rare ESP Cruiser

In 1989 I bought this frame new, and have been riding it ever since. It was my second ESP.  Of all the bikes I have owned none have compared to the pleasure that I get from this bike.  I have always been tall and cruisers fit me best.  I rode this bike in my only grand nationals final and took 6th place.  I was a longtime fan of ESP's owner Dugan Finnell, and eventually got to be an ESP factory rider.  It was Dugan and his family that made ESP so special.  Dugan was an announcer for many of the nationals when I was racing and his voice was used on the ABA computerized starting system.  Every one who has been in the starting gate from the late 80's to at least the mid 90's has heard Dugan's voice say, "okay riders, set them up, on the gate, riders ready, watch the light."  There has been no better symbol for my teenage years than this bike.  It reminds me of my family's support and my accomplishments, and of the great families and friends with whom I used to race.  It also reminds me of the Finnell family and their contributions to bmx.  And I think this bike is a thing of beauty.  It has my favorite frame and parts, and is the best setup I have ever ridden.
