1980 Torker L.P. Mild Steel

Bought by Bob Hadley for his mom from Steve Johnson through Wheels-N-Things in 1980 or 1981.

I got this from my friend Bob Hadley. Bob and his nephew Mike started Hadley Bottom Brackets. Mike still owns the company. Bob raced in the 1970s for Addicks and Redline. He later was technical editor at BMX Plus. He also was technical editor on Bob Haro's book Freestyle Moves. Later he was a marketing director at GT. Bob told me he bought this bike through Steve Johnson (from the Wheels-N-Things store) in 1980-1981 for his mom to ride for exercise. He said she rode it "maybe one time," around the block. It's been sitting in her garage ever since. His mom, Jo, was copy editor at BMX Plus. OG Spec by Bob: Torker L.P. Mild Steel Frame SN PT 5691 M, Torker Chromoly Fork, Torker 4-bolt proto stem with sticker, Diamondback bars (Bob said he thinks they are Eddy King model.), Oakley 2 grips, DiaCompe pre-bent lever with 890 brakes, Tange headset, Araya 7X rims with Suzue large-flange hubs, Avocet, Freestyle tires (for mom to cruise easily on), HKK Smoker chain, Ashtabula crank & spider, Tange BB, Shimano MX15 pedals, Suntour seat clamp, Fluted seatpost, Avocet Touring WI saddle for mom's comfort, Torker vinyl toptube and stem pads Changes to spec by me: AME grips (Oakleys are in being kept safe), Kenda tires (new), Shimano 600 cranks, 44T Shimano chainring, Suntour MX1000 pedals, Uni Seat, NOS Torker vinyl handlebar pad. Other cool things: Two original Hadley stickers, Original Wheels-N-Things and Rad Products stickers Unfortunate things (but cool 'cause it's part of the history): Bob's brother engraved their mom's name and DL# on the stem, bars, rims and the downtube. Damn!
