1981 MCS

MCS Mt bike 1981 #159

I built this "Mt bike" down hiller racer in Calif. I think early 80s or late 70s. Too much dust or smoke seems to have dulled my memory. Lookin for a date. Built it from parts. I remember seeing the first Ritchy Mt bike hanging up in a Calif shop a few years later. Ha, we built our homemades first! Here is the description including frame number. Maby theres a frame database in cyberspace?........  It is a chrome MCS (1981?) "three bar cruiser" Frame #159 should make the dating it easy. Imaculate welds. It has a Phill Wood Crank, one piece and Phil W spider (5 spokes). Bulls eye hubs, gold anodized. Cook Bros triangle seat stem and bars. Pro Neck , gold anadozied bar holder. Pedals are ? anodized red with four hearts like a clover leaf on side. Shamano brake levers. "Fuan 8" red hand grips. 26x1.75" Araya gold anodized wheels. Mongoose seat clincher. Above is all original from the date I built it. The brakes were side pull originally and when cantelever center pulls came out a few years later I brazed on the lugs for them and added cantelevers, Dia Comps. We were gona kill our selves down-hillin with the side pulls! Has new 5 speed rear hub. Seat is recent. It has been arround Northern hemisphere. Commuted snows of Boston, San Francisco and Mts of Northern Calif. Beaches in West Indies. Most amazing is the Bulls Eye hubs still have nearly no play!  I'm rebuilding it. The rust in tube corners brushes out in five strokes with a fine brass brush to a polished chrome as does the whole frame. Need a set of brakes from that era as lost or misplaced rears. Would like campys and a campy derailer. Need a front sproket for Phill Wood 5 spline spider. Contact flysoarhigh@yahoo.com  Im a hanglider pilot. The ride down is smoother and I usually soar up first!! ....Marc
